Meet The Artist, Gayle
Gayle Travers is an accomplished artist who paints the most beautiful works of art for your home, office, cottage or anywhere you would like to brighten up your spaces.
In Her Words
Growing up in Montreal, I spent summers at the cottage in the Laurentians where I was surrounded by beautiful scenery, mountains, lakes, sunrises, sunsets, trees and wildlife.
I believe my love of art and appreciation for our breathtaking Canadian landscapes were instilled at an early age.
I enrolled in sketching and oil painting at McGill University and continued taking private Lessons in Toronto in portraiture working with coloured chalk pastels.
Over the years, I have participated in many juried art shows in Niagara On-The Lake, Rodman Hall, St. Catherine's, Burlington, the Cambridge Art Centre, Simcoe, Centre in the Square, Thornbury Loft Gallery, Collingwood, Blue Mountain Artist Society and the University of Waterloo primarily doing pet portraits at that time.
It wasn’t until I moved to Kitchener in the mid 80’s that I began to paint in oils and acrylics.
My subject matter came from many wonderful trips to Europe, ski trips, gardening, our precious granddaughters and of course our furry friends.
Inside My Creative Mind!
I approach each new painting by determining subject, colour harmony and appropriate size. Always looking for the focal point, that keeps me interested in the piece to completion.
Some of my work is quite large 40 x 60“ usually on a stretch canvas which is a pleasing surface to me, I like the give it provides. I then determine which medium I’ll work in oils or acrylic.
Here in Canada our four beautiful seasons provide me with endless subject matter to pull from. Skiing and snowshoeing in the woods ,I not only take in the beauty but enjoy the peace and quiet it provides.
Sparkles in the snow on a cold sunny day, droopy pine bows weighted down with freshly fallen snow.
I’m always mindful of drawing the viewers eye into my story on canvas.
With camera in hand my paint brush has no limits, everything inspires me trilliums in the woods while I’m golfing, reflections in the stream while walking the dog, cows in a field driving home from up north, peonies in my garden.
Our travels, be it the cobblestone streets of an old European town, wild ponies in the new forest, lavender fields in Provence or snow capped mountains in Colorado.
